2024 LSYB Summer Baseball Information

LS Youth Baseball offers several travel summer baseball opportunities: The Jimmy Fund Little League Program, Bay State Tournament of Champions, Lou Tompkins and Minuteman Summer for older players.

Jimmy Fund Little League Program

Jimmy Fund: a league for those who are interested in playing competitive and fun summer baseball but do not want the commitment of Bay State.  There is no assessment and players are placed on balanced teams. Teams play against other LS teams, and against teams from surrounding towns.

Unlike the LSYB spring season, the minors and majors divisions are inter-grade.  The younger players in a division can improve by playing against older, stronger players.  For the older players in a division, they have an opportunity to be the leaders on their team and set an example for their younger teammates.

Commitment: the divisions and schedules are as follows:

Jimmy Fund Farm (Current 1st Grade):  One event per week, coach pitch, typically held on Wednesday Nights.

Jimmy Fund Farm (Current 2nd Grade):  2 events per week, typically Monday and Thursday nights. All games will be at 5:30 or 6:00.

Jimmy Fund Minors (Current 3rd & 4th Grade): 2 - 3 events per week, typically Tuesday, Thursday, and alternate Friday evenings. Most games are at 5:30 or 6:00, but some Featherland games will be at 7:30 under the lights.

Jimmy Fund Majors (Current 5th and 6th Grade): 2-3 events per week, typically Monday, Wednesday, and alternate Friday evenings.  Most games will be at 5:30 or 6:00. The majors division will play games on the 50/70 field.  This provides continuity for the players that have played on the 50/70 field in the spring, and provides an introduction to the larger field for the 5th graders.

Season: Practices begin the last week of June and games run through the last week of July.

Baystate Tournament of Champions

The mission of Bay State Baseball is to bring together youth all-star teams from cities and towns within Massachusetts, regardless of affiliation, for highly-competitive summer baseball and ultimately, a single champion (per age group). The teams compete for the coveted Tournament of Champions trophy.

Website: http://www.baystatebaseball.com

To be eligible for Bay State players must participate in spring baseball and be Little League age 9 –12.  This program requires a high level of commitment from both players and their families.  Bay State players will be expected to take no more than 10 days of vacation (3 - 4 games). Preferably, no vacation should be planned at all during the first week of practice and during the Tournament of Champions. Any player with a travel commitment or vacation plans must make the tryout evaluation team aware of their vacation plans. Vacation plans must be identified on the Bay State registration form.

Baystate D (Current 3rd Grade): 3 games per week (1 weekend game) & 2 practices per week

Baystate C (Current 4th Grade): 3 games per week (1 weekend game) & 2 practices per week

Baystate B (Current 5th Grade): 4 games per week (2 weekend games) & 2 practices per week

Baystate A (Current 6th Grade): 4 games per week (2 weekend games) & 2 practices per week

Season: Practices begin the week after school ends and runs through the second week of August.

Tryouts for 2024 Baystate will be held on Saturday June 2nd (Rain date Sunday June 3rd)

We aim to have two teams at each level, but that is solely dependent on the players participating in the assessments on the date and time above as well as the identification of coaches for a second team.  If there are not the numbers to support a competitive second team from the pool of players that participate in tryouts on the date and times above a second team will not be established.

Lou Tompkins All Star Baseball

Similar to Bay State, Lou Tompkins is a competitive '90 foot summer league for committed players at advanced levels.

Website: https://ltasbaseball.com

Lou Tompkins “B” (Current 8th Grade Only): 2 - 3 games & practices per week

Lou Tompkins “C” (Current 7th Grade Only): 2 - 3 games & practices per week

**A subset of Lou Tompkins “C” players will be entered into the 50/70 Little League World Series.  In order to be eligible for the LLWS team you must meet age eligibility requirements required under Little League rules and be a member of the Lou Tompkins C team. There may be required rescheduling of Lou Tompkins C games during the season to accommodate 50/70 LLWS Games.

There will be only one team established at each age level.

Tryouts for 2024 LTB and LTC will be held on Monday, May 27th at 5:00p

Minuteman Summer

Minuteman Baseball runs a Summer Minuteman League for current 7th – 10th graders.  This league is made up of teams from the same towns as the Minuteman Spring league.  It will provide an opportunity for players to participate in a less competitive and more informal level of play than the Lou Tompkins program.

Website: http://www.mmbrl.com

Season: Games will begin mid-June with games being played on Monday through Thursday nights. The schedule is a 12 game schedule (2 games per week).  The single elimination playoffs will begin in early August.

There are no tryouts for this team, but a certain number of players are required to field a team.  If we are unable to field a team, families will receive a full refund.  To the extent that we receive registrations more than the maximum number allowed but less than two teams, selection will be based on player availability during the summer and the order of receipt of the application forms.
